A Grandparenting Route to UKCP Directory of Approved Supervisors

This Grandparenting route will remain open for three years from the date of publication of this document, 1st January 2013

Applications received before 30th June 2013 will be processed free of charge, those received after that date will incur a fee of £25.

There are 2 routes for Grandparenting.

Route 1 for Sexual and Relationship Psychotherapists who are registered with UKCP through this college and who are COSRT Accredited Supervisors

These supervisors are automatically eligible for inclusion in the UKCP Directory of Approved Supervisors once they have shown:

a. a statement from their supervisor of supervision confirming regular effective use of supervision for 6 hours per year minimum

b. confirmation from the applicant that the College Code of Ethics and Practice for Supervisors is known and adhered to

c. confirmation that CPD requirements are met

Route 2 for all other supervisors wishing to be included in the Directory via the Grandparenting route

NB. this route is not yet available

These supervisors are required to fulfil the following minimum criteria:

a. Must be a UKCP Registrant with a minimum of 5 years experience as a psychotherapist post-registration or post UKCP recognised professional equivalent qualification.

b. At least 3 years experience of post-registration work as a supervisor, or 80 hours of formal supervision given (50 % or more of this should normally be one-to-one supervision);

c. Where an applicant has qualified, registered and practises in more than one modality approach as a psychotherapist or UKCP recognised professional equivalent they must:

i. Demonstrate at least 2 years of formally supervised experience of work with clients as a qualified registered Psychotherapist in each modality (minimum of 104 hours of formal supervision received in each modality) and

ii. Demonstrate at least 5 years of formally supervised experience of work with clients overall (minimum of 260 hours of formal supervision received), before their hours of experience as a supervisor may be counted towards eligibility for recognition as a supervisor;

d. Where an applicant has qualified, registered and practises in one modality approach they must demonstrate at least 5 years of formally supervised experience of work with clients (minimum of 260 hours of formal supervision received), before their hours of experience as a supervisor may be counted towards eligibility for recognition as a supervisor;

e. Must have been in formal individual supervision of supervision for at least 25 hours. (This may not include peer supervision of supervision).

Applicants for the Grandparenting Route 2 will be required to submit the following information:

a. Confirm adherence to the Code of Ethics and Practice of the CSRP.

b. Show an appropriate record of hours of clinical practice and supervision practice and provide a supervisor’s report on the standard of their clinical practice.

c. Show an appropriate record of hours of the supervision of own clinical practice and supervision practice and provide a supervisor’s report on the standard of their supervision practice.

d. Present a short written model of their Supervision Framework including style, approach and understanding of supervision and demonstrating the use of supervision of supervision. (750 to 1000 words).

These would be assessed by appropriately experienced members of the College who had volunteered for this role.
